A New Found Power?
This is Geneva. There is a lot of clever stuff goes on here. Quite pretty too.
Recently Racer was invited to Geneva in Switzerland to a conference showcasing the launch of a new product that may have a profound impact on electric RC racing. Hosted by Fritz Schitzenself and with support from Loof Lirpa, an esteemed Swedish scientist and National Pigeon Racing Champion, they have been developing a new power source to keep the transponders registering on the birds in long-distance, round the world pigeon races. Apparently it’s big business…
A Pigeon, yesterday.
The technology comes from the Hadron Collider experiment which is, as far as we can understand, a big ringie type thing that is beneath Geneva, somewhere in the region of 23 miles long, or in diameter, can’t quite remember which and has protons or somesuch whizzing around it. Frankly most of it went over our heads and it was noticed early that if you swap the places of the letters D and R in Hadron, it makes a much funnier word. So instead we giggled about this and drank the free beer whilst indulging in the cakes that were also on offer. Minty.
Apparently this new power source will produce the same energy as our current LiPo packs in a package the size of a pound coin. A prototype was on show but when we asked Fritz if we could photograph it the reply was,‘ no for sure, have another beer and ze cake. Zey are nice arn’t zey, surely’‘. So no then…
A flux capacitor. Chewy.
Tests have shown that the prototype chassis can reach a potential of 88.7 MPH but this seems to be the operating ceiling of the product as funny things start happening even if 0.1 MPH more is exceeded. It is believed that this is due to the fact that flux capacitor technology is also employed. Fritz stated that ‘Ve have done faster zan ze 88.7 speed but ve lost ze prototypes. Ve do not know vere zey have gone, zey just dissappeared in ze big flash of light. Ve have looked under ze sofa and behind ze big heavy cupboard that all ze stationary is in and everything’. We here at Racer however are sure they will turn up one day…
Fritz also stated that the product is not far from launch. When asked what will it be called, he said he wanted a name that really shouted about the products credentials. He said ‘It will be called….Dave’. However after suggesting that this may be lost in translation in some markets he said ‘Ok we will call it Powwwaaaahhhhh zen’ (said in a Jeremy Clarksonesque style).
Seeing as we didn’t really listen, we contacted Maurice Ital, an esteemed professor at one of our fine acedemic institutes here in the UK. He commented ‘That looks nice’ before adding further input with ‘What does it do?’ and ‘Put that down, it’s expensive’. We explained roughly what it did and still it didn’t make sense so his final word on this exciting product were ‘You have no idea do you, please leave, now’. Wise words indeed…
The Powwwaaaahhhhh (or Dave as it will be launched as in some markets) is due for release exactly a year from now…
