Mike Klausner Wins 2nd Leg Austrian Championship – 1:8 On-Road

The 2nd leg (of 6) for the Austrian championship for 1:8 On-road at MORAC-Graz (EC-B track 2008 – www.morac-graz.at) was again dominated by Mike Klausner. Having pole position, winning Semi-final (in Austria there are no Top-4 direct qualifier) and final a nearly perfect weekend for him.

After qualifying there was the following result:

In the 45 minute final Mike Klausner pushed away in the beginning and at first refuelling (at 4:30) he had already a 5 second lead what was the time he need for the one extra refuel stop he had to do against Herfried Pucher who was pitting at 5 minute mark. At minute 6 to 9 Klausner’s car became slower – it looked like he had a technical problem (it was no technical problem – more details later) – he lost more than 10 seconds again Pucher!

After second refuelling Klausner became again quickest on track and managed to close the gap to Pucher again! Now the lead was changing several times with refuelling. At half-time mark Klausner was pushing extremely and managed very fast lap times and get a comfortable lead then at 23 minutes refuel with a tyre change (4 tyre change in 8.5 seconds) – Pucher gets again the lead! Klausner now pushing with new tyres again and closing the gap to Pucher who was doing a 17 second tyre change at minute 26 – now Klausner had a comfortable lead which he controlled until the end of the race.

After the final Michael Klausner explained his problem why his car became slower before second refuelling – he had no feeling in has throttle finger – he was putting his hands to high and got cramp – at the pit stop he could shake his hands and get feeling again!
