Ryan Maifield and AE Take Eight Wins at Annual Cactus Classic
For the 25th year in a row, Scottsdale RC Speedway has hosted one of the most prestigious, non-sanctioned events in the world. Over the years the event has grown in size, culminating in the largest yet on the weekend of 18-20 March 2011 with 430 plus entries. With a challenging layout and perfect Arizona weather, racers were treated to an action-packed race weekend fit for the record books.
From the first time on the track, Team Associated’s Ryan Maifield was the man to beat. Racing four classes, it would be a challenge to switch among classes and maintain vehicles, tyres, and focus. Maifield was up to the task with his Reedy/LRP-powered Factory Team B4.1, B44.1, SC10, and soon-to-be-released SC10 4×4, all with JConcepts tyres and accessories. Ryan was able to do something that no one has ever done at the Cactus Classic – top qualify in 2WD Modified Buggy, 4WD Modified Buggy, 2WD Modified Short Course and 4WD Modified Short Course.
When Sunday came and the main events got underway, Maifield delivered on his TQs in 2WD and 4WD Buggy, and 2WD Short Course. Taking three of four titles capped a solid weekend from Maifield. Not to be left out, Team Associated teammate Ryan Cavalieri piloted his Factory Team T4.1 to the Modified Truck title, winning two of the three A finals. Also claiming victories for Team Associated was Brent Fiege in 13.5 4WD Buggy, Tony Truman in 13.5 2WD Short Course, and Michael Gonzales in both 17.5 2WD Buggy and Truck.
With another year in the books, Team Associated once again claims multiple victories at the Cactus Classic. They would like to thank the crew at Scottsdale RC Speedway for a great event and to Reedy, LRP, JConcepts, and Pro-Line for their continued support.
