Robert Pietsch and Davide Gallesi Win Contact Tyres Trophy
The 2011 Contact Tyres Trophy took place on the wonderful Fiorano track in Italy with some 80 drivers in 1:10 and 1:8 nitro classes. Because the weather forecast expected rain for Sunday, it was decided to race only on the Saturday and a sunny day made the race very nice for all the drivers under the perfect organisation of Angelo Gesualdi and his family. In the end, TQ in the 1:8 class went to Robert Pietsch driving for Mugen/Novarossi/Contact. All the Contact drivers showed very good lap times running mainly LIGHT rims with 32sh front tyres and 35sh rear tyres. Simon Kurzbuch ran a very good in qualifying supported by his brother and Contact Switzerland distributor Rolf Suter. The A final saw Robert Pietsch have an accident with Rick Vrielijnck at the start, but lap after lap with an average lap time of 14.9 seconds he clawed his way back into first place after ten minutes and a lead he would never lose. This was another impressive race for Robert who is very positive for the World Championship in April.
In 1:10, TQ went to another Contact driver Jerome Renaux driving for Xray/Max/Contact. Jerome was using Contact Carbon rims with 37sh front tyres and 40sh rear tyres. The final would see a close battle from Jerome Renaux and Davide Gallesi and at the end David won driving a very good final. It was a shame for Jerome that he had to make an extra stop for fuel but he couldn’t check perfectly the fuel consumption of his engine and decided for a safe strategy. Thanks to all the drivers that attended the race including Holland, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. A special thanks to Michael Selner of HOECO and Contact Tyres Austrian distributor Felix and Robert. The next big race for the Contact drivers is the World Championships in Miami, USA in April.
