Team Durango Win Big at JConcepts Clash 2011
The annual JConcepts Clash took place in Florida, USA and Team Durango has produced a report from the event:
Team Durango drivers Jörn Neumann and Hupo Hönigl took their fleet of off-road vehicles to do battle. Practice day went well for the guys – the clay track was dry and grooving up quickly and the cars were all going well. Things took a turn for the worse – much worse – at the start of qualifying, as heavy rain started to really affect things. Drivers were trying all sorts of tricks to get extra traction in the slippery conditions and the Team Durango pair weren’t quite up to speed on some of the ‘tricks’ the locals had to cope with the conditions. Still the guys had Team Durango originator Gerd Strenge on hand to help. Qualifying went well with TQ in 1:8 electric buggy with the DEX408, 4WD modified buggy with the DEX410 and 4WD short course with the DESC410R. The guys also placed third (Hupo) and fifth (Jörn) on the grid for the 2WD A final with the new DEX210.
Bad tyre choices took a toll on the guys in 2WD and 4WD buggy with both guys dropping down the order in 2WD after some solid qualifying, but bouncing back in 4WD with Jörn taking the win and Hupo backing up the result in third place. In 4WD SC, Hupo took the win some eight seconds ahead of former World Champion Brian Kinwald. The new DEX408 production car was being run for the first time and whilst Ryan Lutz has tested the pre-production car, neither Jörn or Hupo had run the new car until the Clash 2011. Taking TQ and second on the grid, the guys sailed round in starting order with Jörn taking the win ahead of team-mate Hupo for an impressive DEX408 one-two. The DEX408 is coming in January and is sure to raise the level of exposure the 1:8 electric off-road class gets.
