Avid Triad Slipper Clutch
Avid have released details of their new slipper clutch called Triad. This is a a compact three plate clutch that Avid claim “provides smoother throttle response, more torque capacity, and lighter weight than current two-plate slipper clutches.” With the advent of brushless and LiPo technology, two-plate slipper clutches have been carried over from previous generation cars which were developed for use with brushed motors. The problem is that most two-plate slipper clutches are pushed to the limit with today’s brushless motors. Avid have found that racers have to practically lock their standard two-plate clutches to handle increased brushless power and therefore the clutch is over-stressed and the power delivery is abrupt with the clutch acting like an on/off switch. The Triad slipper spreads out the stress over three drive plates and four drive surfaces and has 20 per cent more torque capacity in a compact package with lower rotating inertia and no lock-ups due to high pressure.
This project has been in development for seven months and we are very pleased with the final result, which was proven at the recent ROAR Super Nationals when two titles were won using it. The #1020 Triad clutch will fit the B4.1, T4.1, SC10, B44.1, TLR 22, TLR 22T and TLR 22 SCT.
