Boots Gives DB1 Inaugural Win
Round five of the BRCA 1:10 Off-Road Nationals saw a unique event for the UK racers. Hosted by the very hard-working Silverstone club, this meeting saw an indoor Astroturf track built specially for the event. A big thanks has to go to all the club members as the large equestrian arena procured for the weekend was excellent and plenty big enough for track, rostrum and pitting for everybody all under one roof – with space to spare. Just as well too, as the weather for the weekend saw a few heavy downpours that thankfully had absolutely no effect on the racing what-so-ever.
The 2wd event saw an unusual turn with an F5 driver taking pole position. It’s less surprising when you hear that driver was Elliott Boots and his LRP-powered Kyosho RudeBits DB1 car looked like it was on rails. In the finals Elliott took all three legs for his first electric National win, finishing ahead of TLR/Team Orion driver Darren Bloomfield in second and fellow DB1 driver Kevin Lee, who used Tekin horsepower in third. Although not making the podium for the first time this year, Lee Martin still did enough to seal the 2WD BRCA National title with his Speed Passion equipped Tamiya TRF201-based car – congratulations Lee!
The 4WD event on Sunday was a corker with times much closer on a very fast track. It was Associated/LRP/Reedy driver Neil Cragg that took the pole position with his B44.1. After three very closely fought finals it was Neil that came out on top ahead of the Tamiya/Speed Passion of Lee Martin and the Tamiya/Tekin of Danny McGee. This result means Lee can’t be beaten in the championship, but Neil can still draw level that would give us tied champions due to the count back ruling. There’s not long to wait with the decider being held at the popular Kidderminster track in three weeks time.
