Wouter Wynen and X Factory Win R6 of Belgian Series
The Astroturf track at Merchtern was the scene for the sixth round of the combined Belgian/Netherlands Championship series on Saturday 15 September. X Factory’s newest European Team Driver Wouter Wynen won the event from team mate Bruno Heremans in third as privateer John Debacquer drove his X-6 Squared to fourth.
Wynen and Heremans qualified second and third respectively when three rounds of qualifying were over. Privateers John Debacquer and Arjan Van De Graaf also put their X-6 Squared buggies in the A final.
Bruno broke a ball stud early in A-1 so the race was on between Wouter and TQ man Wesley Van Helmond. They swapped the lead back and forth until coming out of the final corner where it was a drag race to the line and Wouter won by a tenth of a second.
In A-2 Wesley had a three to four second lead most of the race. Wouter made an early mistake and began working his way through the pack until on the last lap, Van Helmond made a mistake and had to be marshalled. Wynen roared through to take the win and the meeting. Wouter also won A-3 to dominate the finals and Heremans’ second in A-3 put him third on the podium.
Bruno Heremans’ third at Merchtern gives him a commanding lead in the Belgian Championship. Only John Debacquer can beat Elvo and to pull it off John must TQ and win the final round with Heremans third or worse. So X Factory wins the Belgian Championship for sure – it’s just a matter of which driver.
