Scott Ullig and Serpent Win Michigan State Series Title
After a long season of racing throughout the state of Michigan, the finals of the Michigan State Championship Series finally arrived on 29 September. The host of the final round was the Stables Raceway in Fruitport, MI. This facility has a very unique and picturesque setting with the track laid out in a value behind a large barn, which also functioned as the drivers stand. As the racers entered the barn, they were greeted by a massive amounts of trophies, as well as a large amount of give-aways.
The surface of the track was also a little different than what most racers are used to. Instead of a hard packed clay track, the racers were provided with a loamy track that would get rougher every round. Due to the changing track conditions, the qualification method was changed to points qualifying instead of the usual rocket round.

A chaotic start of the main shuffled everyone around quite a bit. At the end of the first lap, it was TLR/Orion sponsored Mike Sontag in the lead, closely followed by Dan Cook, Shane Snyder and the rest of the field. Due to a mistake by Mike Sontag, the lead was taken over by Shane Snyder and he was now closely being followed by Serpent/Novarossi/VP Fuel/Upgrade RC sponsored Scott Ullig. Top qualifier Paul Edwards was moving through the field after a horrible start to move all the way up to third place, but had to retire due to mechanical issues on lap 13. Around the same time, Scott Ullig was able to take over the lead after a mistake by Shane Snyder. At the end of the main, which required full concentration for the entire 30 minutes due to the very rough conditions, it was Serpent’s driver Scott who crossed the finish in first, followed by Shane Snyder in second and Dan Cook in third. Scott also placed second for the entire series!
