The first round of the 2013 BRCA 1:10 Off-Road Nationals saw the racers head to Kidderminster in the West Midlands – a classic Astroturf track mixed with cobbled/tarmac sections. For this year, the club have been working hard and the old dirt sections of the track have now been covered over with Astro, and extra drainage added so that on wetter days (as this would turn out to be) the surface still holds up to the racing.
The 2WD event on Saturday started damp and never fully dried out as drizzle fell intermittently during the day. Until the fourth and final round that is, when the rain came down properly and totally soaked the track for the rest of the day.
Pole position went to Darren Bloomfield (TLR/Vampire) ahead of Simon Moss (Schumacher/Speed Passion) and Neil Cragg (Associated/Centro/LRP/Reedy) with Lee Martin (Tamiya/Viper/Speed Passion) and Tom Yardy (Associated/Centro/Savox/Reedy) making up the top five.
After the three legs of the A final it was Darren Bloomfield that walked off with the winner’s trophy having taken the first two legs with some very controlled driving – never making a mistake. Simon Moss took second overall after clinching the final leg, just ahead of Neil Cragg in remaining podium position.
