This is the new X-6S 2WD buggy conversion is a project from X-Factory UK that features a shaft-drive arrangement. Designed for today’s ultra high traction Astroturf and carpet-type tracks, it sees the motor position further forward than traditional mid-motored cars for better stability and a sharper response.
The X-6S is based on the popular X Factory X-6 Cubed front-end, but utilises the rear suspension and drive train from the trusted Team Associated B44.2 platform. Featuring a lightweight “CarbonFlex” chassis for both rigid construction and strength, it retains the all-important controlled flex for consistent bump handling. A carbon fibre multi-layer front top deck system combined with a new carbon fibre rear top deck is designed to optimise flex and provide easy access for slipper adjustment. The chassis is based around the use of short LiPo batteries for both lateral and longitudinal weight balance. Two servo mounting positions and rear mounting locations for added ballast to enable easy weight distribution tuning. Antenna mounting locations on both the left and right of the car to suit multiple receiver positioning.
The X-6S is being sold as a conversion kit and will be available in two versions – Level 1 and Level 2. The X-6S Level 1 kit will include the parts required for someone who already owns an X Factory X-6 Cubed leaving them to source only the B44.2 rear-end and centre drive parts required to complete their model. It includes the “CarbonFlex” main lower chassis, front carbon fibre side decks, front carbon fibre upper top deck, rear carbon fibre flex top deck, carbon fibre battery strap, X-6S logo vinyl pre-cut decal sheet, set up sheets and instructions. The X-6S Level 2 kit is aimed at a racer who does not already own an X-6 Cubed and includes everything from the Level 1 kit, as well as the following items – graphite moulded nose piece, alloy front top deck supports, carbon fibre nose bridge spacers and stiffeners, plastic wing mounts (X Factory), carbon fibre 4mm “multi mount” rear shock tower, alloy chassis top deck posts, alloy battery posts, carbon fibre antenna mount, alloy top deck spacers, clear Lexan body and wing with window masks. Note that the Associated parts are not included in either kit.
The X Factory team have been running the prototype cars during development recently and have already produced some great results – Kevin Hunt took TQ and won the 2WD A final at the HNMC Winter series round six at Ware, and he also finished a fine third place overall at the Silverstone Astro Masters final round in an A final packed with F1 grade and other factory drivers, Ed Kerry qualified and finished second overall at the Triple Crown final round at Faversham and both Dan Greenwood and Kevin Hunt ran the cars at the BWOC event held at Silverstone both producing excellent results also.
