The recently re-developed Kent track held a round of their summer series on Sunday, and with a BRCA National around the corner, several of the top drivers were in attendance to gain some useful knowledge prior to that event.
From the Nemo stable, Darren Bloomfield, Jonny Skidmore and Ollie Currie were all there to gain knowledge and enjoyed the excellent track. Darren would have a close battle with Elliott Boots in qualifying as the two guys traded times, but it would be Darren that would go on to take the victory in the main final after an excellent display. Elliott fell victim to some errors while trying to maintain the relentless pace that Darren was able to set. The Nemo young guns put on a great show to battle over third and the final step on the podium. Jonny Skidmore would eventually edge out friend and team mate Ollie Currie to take that position.
All the drivers were quick to compliment the club for an excellent improvement on their track, and now we look forward to both the truggy/E-buggy national and the nitro buggy national at the same venue shortly.
A little further north, the SRS round at Herts Nitro Model Club was taking place and and there was a very good entry despite many other events taking place on the same day.
Beta and Piranha driver Callum Niblett drove excellently in the opening two rounds of qualifying to secure the TQ spot. Callum’s recent form has been excellent, and he continued that here. Fellow Beta driver Kevin Brunsden took second on the grid in what were as always at Herts, very close heats.
Nemo/Agama driver Tony Truman was playing a new engine in gently over the first two rounds, just getting some miles on it before setting a race tune. In the third round his engine was ready and he was on target to TQ the round in the fastest time of the meeting until a marshal ran in front of him obscuring his view, causing a five second error, which due to the closeness of the competition was enough to put him down to fourth in round, and fourth overall. He was ready to make a strong push in the final, when sadly the heavens opened and the track was awash with rain. The drivers voted and decided the take the results from qualifying rather than plug through the mud and water. So a slightly disappointing end to what had been a good days racing…
Next weekend the Nemo team will be at the BRCA Truggy and E-Buggy National at Kent.
