The Herts Nitro Model Club winter series got off to a flyer for Jon Hazlewood and the production version of new Agama A215 buggy at the weekend that he was running.
The weather conditions were cool, but thankfully dry for the meeting and with the likes of Elliott Boots and Jack Embling in attendance, the competition was very high.
Throughout qualifying Jon was able to run close to the front in all rounds, taking second overall in each of the three rounds of qualifying to place second overall. Having been on his usual favourite of Beta Freerides, he choose to run the Cubez for the final and found them to be better again on the recently prepared, yet slippery surface.
The final got underway with Jack forcing his way past Jon on the opening lap, but Jon was not deterred and quickly made a move back. He then set about the leader Elliott and slowly but surely got closer and closer until Elliott made a mistake allowing Jon into the lead from where he gradually pulled away. By the time of the second pit stops, Jon had enough in hand to make his stop and still rejoin the track ahead of his competition. He was comfortable over the course of the last six minutes and took the win by 13 seconds ahead of Jack who benefitted from a late mistake from Elliott to take second.
Simon Reeves also used Beta tyres to take the win in the E-buggy class to cap a great weekend.
