On the back of Nemo Racing’s buggy success, Jon Hazlewood continued the team’s run of championship wins by taking the BRCA National Truggy title. Here is the Nemo report from the BRCA final race of the year:
Coming into to the weekend, Jon was in a very strong championship position, needing only a decent result to ensure the Championship went his way. As it was, Jon drove well within himself to place his Agama A8T third on the day to secure his title. The race was won by Bullitt driver Graham Alsop making a one-off appearance in the truggy series this year after a close battle with another Agama driver and BRCA Junior Buggy Champion Ollie Currie. Ollie has competed well at the truggy races this year and this result would actually secure second overall in the series for him, and would complete an Agama one-two. Third overall in the series was another Bullitt/Beta driver, Michael Lewis. Coming into the weekend, Michael was actually the only man who could deny Jon the championship, but a not so good round by his standards saw him fall to third overall behind Ollie.
The E-buggy class was already wrapped up for Elliott Boots, so it was a fun race for the competitors this time around. The main final saw Agama driver and nitro buggy champion Darren Bloomfield get into the lead at the start, and he would defend gamely from Elliott for 11 of the 12-minute race. The two drivers had a couple of coming togethers in which Elliot waited, but these small delays kept Tony Truman well in touch and ready to pounce should the opportunity arrive. Late in the race, Elliott clashed with Darren again, this time not waiting for his rival and taking the lead, only for Tony Truman to blast past him on the run up to the line to take a fantastic victory in front of Elliott and Darren. This result would see Darren and Tony finish second and third overall in the series after a close fought season, with three different winners in the five rounds.
So that’s it for the 2014 National racing season, and honestly we at Nemo Racing couldn’t have asked for more with three BRCA titles in one season. Congratulations to all our champions, and to all the team members who helped along the way.
