Round three of the popular GT12 Clubmans Series was hosted by the Broxtowe Model Car Club on Sunday 16 November 2014. After a welcoming drivers briefing from the club, a vote was held to decide whether to change the qualifying format from ‘race’ starts to staggered starts. With a majority show of hands it was decided to run a staggered start system in qualifying.
Broxtowe laid a technical and twisty track for the event, and unusually it was run anti-clockwise. Grip levels came up steadily during qualifying, with drivers improving their times throughout the day. For many drivers, it was their first chance to run the new Schumacher SupaStox GT at a national event. After four rounds of five-minute qualifying, eight of the A finalists qualified with the SupaStox GT including the top six.
Leg one of the A final was a three way battle between the top three qualifiers – James Hart, David Gale and David Hall – with James taking the win. Leg two saw great drives from Sam Clifton and Matt Hunter resulting in second and third positions respectively, and James Hart taking the win from the front to take the overall win. In leg three a great start from Matt Hunter saw him running third behind David Hall who was pushing James Hart hard for the win. A racing incident between Matt and David Gale dropped the former back down the field, but a determined comeback gave him fourth in the leg. James ended the final leg with another win, with David Hall second and David Gale third. The overall positions after three legs were:
1. James Hart – Schumacher GT
2. David Hall – Schumacher GT
3. David Gale – Schumacher GT
4. Matt Hunter – Schumacher GT
5. Sam Clifton – Schumacher GT
6. Craig Mawson – Schumacher GT
7. Stephen Lander – Mardave AC12S
8. Gavin Stephenson – Schumacher GT
9. Paul Jenkinson – Schumacher GT
10. Alex Brocklebank – Schumacher SS
There was some very good driving in all the finals, and of note young driver Louis Parker qualified comfortably in the B final. After the trophy presentation, which Robin Schumacher kindly stepped up to present, the popular raffle was held with some fantastic prizes to be won, including one lucky driver, Chris Parrot walking away with a brand new Dremel.
Thanks to the host club Broxtowe and their members for a hugely successful meeting. The drivers will be looking forward no doubt to returning next year for the GT National Series.
