The third round of the BRCA GT National Series was held on 8 March 2015 at the Killamarsh Sports Centre and was hosted by the Swifts club. The club set out a well-conceived track layout that included a flowing infield and a long straight, which required some serious thought by the drivers when deciding what gear ratio to run.
In GT12 we were joined by a couple of experienced LMP12 drivers, for their first taste of GT12 National racing, who were hoping to qualify in the A final. This was no mean feat for them, as the standard of driving at the top end was highly competitive and qualifying times were extremely close. In fact throughout the field, there were some very close battles in qualifying and the finals.
At the end of the four rounds of qualifying, Adam Walker-Catchpole qualified in pole position in the A final with Schumacher drivers Colin Price, Andy Murray, Peter Craig and David Gale qualifying third, fourth, ninth and tenth respectively. The A final was led by Adam for most of the final as a couple of racing incidents early on in the race dropped Colin Price down the field. Colin then put in a great performance to fight back to second in the closing laps. A small mistake by Adam on the last lap saw Colin nearly taking the honours. However, as the buzzer went it was Adam who crossed the line first with Colin finishing a close second. Andy Murray, who has recently joined Schumacher as a Research and Development Engineer put in a solid performance to finish third, with Peter Craig finishing eighth and David Gale in ninth, all with their SupaStox GTs.
Many thanks to the Swifts club for providing a great venue and a thoroughly enjoyable meeting. The final round of the GT National series will be held at Chesterfield on 26 April 2015.
