Schumacher report from the second round of their BTCC series that took place over the weekend:
The superb and very fast venue of Mendip played host to the second round of the Schumacher BTCC series. Many drivers turned up on Saturday for some track time and found the weather dry but cool all day. Sunday morning arrived and we woke up to see it raining and a few puddles on the track. It was decided that we would keep practice open until 10.00 to give the track the chance to dry out.
Due to the entry being somewhat lower than usual – mainly due to many of the regular drivers attending the ETS race on the same weekend – it was decided that we could run six rounds of qualifying and one final. The format therefore was three from six to count using round by round qualifying. This was hugely welcomed by the racers who were in attendance, so plenty of track time before the National in a couple of weeks.
Schumacher’s Mark Musgrove along with Paul Morrissey from the Mendip club, explained the format for the event and all of the information to the drivers. The six qualifying rounds took place and then it was onto the finals.

After the racing we did the traditional trophy and sweet presentation, and also the famous Schumacher raffle – congratulations to all the lucky winners of the prizes.
Star prize winner of the Sky RC tyre warmers was the one and only Mr Kris Kennedy, so it was fantastic to see him lucky enough to win a prize after all of the great commentary work he does throughout the finals for us all. As always a huge thank you to everyone that attended the event. A huge thank you to the Mendip club for hosting the event with us, to Paul in race control and Chris at scrutineering – you both did a superb job!
The next round of the series is at Stafford on 5 July ad you can book in here.
