The concept for the Tyre Wars was to allow just one tyre pattern from three tyre manufacturers to be used over the three-day meeting. Saturday was an optional practice day and 70 of the 91 buggy racers took part and saw the E-buggy and nitro buggies run together. Round one of TQ went to Simon Reeves using Pro-Line tyres, AKA driver Mitchell Booth was fastest in round two before Kevin Brunsden took the third round on Betas. TQ in truggy went to James Tatlow on Beta tyres as Simon Reeves (Pro-Line) was fastest in E-buggy.
The rain stayed away and the track was in great condition heading into qualifying on Sunday. There were 110 racers over the Sunday and Monday with a junior under 16 race at end of the day. Darren Bloomfield (Beta) dominated qualifying taking four of the five rounds with Callum Niblett taking the final round also using Beta tyres. E-buggy TQ was to go to Simon Reeves (Pro-Line) whilst in truggy, Nemo Racing’s Jon Hazlewood took the truggy honours on Beta rubber.
The junior race would be for the under 16s and lasted 20-minutes. The top three saw a win for Callum Niblett from Jon Skidmore and Oliver Currie, all using Beta tyres. Next up was was a free BBQ that was well received by all the racers.
Monday was set aside for finals but with a monsoon predicted a decision was made at 09:00 to cancel and the results would stand on qualifying, which was a disappointing end to two great days.
The full results can be found here with junior results here. Fingers crossed that next year’s Tyre Wars will be bigger and better.
