EFRA 1:12 European Championships Hinckley – Day Two
Report by Papa J
Four rounds of qualifying on Saturday would effectively decide the grid for Sunday’s finals. Going into the Saturday runs Juho Levanen looked the class of the modified field while Andy Moore looked the man to beat in the Spec Pro Stock class.
Marc Fischer staked his claim to FTD with a quick run on Saturday with his GM powered Corally morning while Juho Levanen looked in control up front in the mod class.
The Modified class was being dominated by Associated, the R5 in the hands of Juho Levanen and Olly Jefferies were now joined by the Yokomo badged R5 of Ronald Volker. As qualifying progressed Juho and Olly had to watch Ronald slowly home in on their times.
In round five of qualifying Marc Fischer took the top spot in Spec Pro Stock and was looking good to hang on to that place but in round six he crashed early on in the run leaving the battle for pole between Andy Moore and Chris Kerswell, Chris realised the potential he had shown all weekend and drove a quick controlled run to take FTD, a deserved result for a driver who had worked hard all weekend and drove with a great deal of belief.
In Modified Juho and Olly watched Ronald Volker come close to demoting them twice only to dump close to the end of the run but in round six Ronald did enough to squeeze himself between the two Associated team-mates making it a 1-2-3 for Associated R5 at the head of the modified grid for Sundays A final.
Finals day is on Sunday and has what looks like being some hotly contested races, three finals and a practice final for everyone and the action gets underway at 9am with the prize giving scheduled for 6pm.
