LRP SXX StockSpec – Too Powerful For Stock Racing?

It’s a rumbling inside the scene. The latest speed controllers provide extreme high top speeds in stock classes. “Is that still Stock?” – this is what many racers wonder about…

It’s a dilemma. On one hand, stock drivers don’t want to pass on modern technologies. On the other, latest speed controllers provide an amount of power which almost lifts them up to modified level. For sure, the LRP StockSpec is on top at this point which has been proven by countless victories in the recent past (LRP TCM, DMC DM Indoor Sport and all ETS races in this season). It’s power has brought speeds to the stock classes which were unimaginable in the past. Too much for many drivers and organisers. Further on, the optimal setup of the controller varies a lot depending on different motors and track sizes. For many drivers, it’s not possible to invest such a large amount of time to find the perfect setup. This leads to completely different performances of the cars which is against the spirit of stock classes.

A simple solution has already been implemented in LRP’s SXX StockSpec which gives you the benefits of LRP’s modern technology and keeps speeds and efforts on a moderate level: the “Boost 0” mode. Using it, the motor runs very efficiently, cool and with conventional speed without power program. To make this mode easy to control for drivers, organisers and officials, the controller’s LED flashes while the electronics are active and the car is in neutral state. During a race, it’s easy just to walk through the starting grid and find out with just one look that all controllers operate in “Boost 0” mode.

This video (CLICK HERE) shows how easy the cars can be controlled.

The results are amazing. Radar tests led to following measurements: a Hot Bodies Cyclone TC with LRP 13.5T Stock Spec motor, LRP 5900 50C Hardcase LiPo and a LRP SXX StockSpec speed controller inside reached up to 53 mph on a long straight with a gearing of 1:4.95, operating in “Boost 8” mode. With the mode switched to “Boost 0”, the exact same car was slowed down to a maximum of 35 mph. Now it’s your choice: maximum power and speed generated by the magnificent software of the LRP SXX StockSpec or “true stock racing” with “Boost 0”.

Stop press: R.O.A.R., American association (equivalent to German DMC) has reacted and published a catalogue of all speed controllers which are regular in Sportsman Classes. Thereon you’ll find many simple controllers which don’t offer power programs, e. g. LRP AI Brushless series. The LRP StockSpec is also covered but has to be operated in “Boost 0” mode. R.O.A.R. statement says that many manufacturers will follow the LRP philosophy and develop controllers with a “Boost 0” mode that will be displayed by a flashing LED in neutral state. This will smooth the way to exciting and narrow races on a conventional speed level which supports the basic idea of stock racing.
