Cragg and Martin Share Wins at Robin Hood Raceway
Round two of the BRCA 1:10 Off-Road Nationals took place over the weekend at the popular Robin Hood Raceway. After some unexpected set-backs during the previous week, the club members had put in a sterling effort to make sure everything was ready for the full compliment of 120 racers. The layouts using their Astroturf track were a mix of fast and flowing with some slower technical sections and despite the challenging tracks, lap times were amazingly close with only seconds separating scores of drivers all the way through the field.
In 2WD it was current National Champ Neil Cragg who converted his pole position into a win driving his Reedy/LRP-powered Associated/Centro C4.1 car. Lee Martin was the only driver able to push him in the finals with his Tamiya TRF201 Vega conversion as he took second place with Ben Jemison finishing off the top three after an excellent drive for his first ever national podium, also driving a Centro C4.1.
Lap times remained phenomenally close in the 4WD event and after the four rounds of qualifying, this time it was the current 4WD Champ Lee on pole position with his Speed Passion-powered Tamiya TRF511. With the three A final legs complete where once again Lee and Neil went head to head, it was Lee that came out on top with Neil taking his Associated B44.1 to second and then Ellis Stafford in third with the ever evolving development X Factory X-7.
