Round two of the BRCA 1:10 On-Road Championship was held last weekend at the Wombwell track. The weather was good with sunshine and warm temperatures on Saturday, and we even managed a dry Sunday despite the forecast being for rain. As the cars went out for practice it was clear that there was very little grip, although by the end of the day the traction had improved considerably. In 200mm it was the three 747s of Mark Green, Joe Kerry and Alex Thurston, who just like at the last round were considerably quicker than anyone else. The traction levels continued to improve throughout qualifying with the fastest times being set in the very last run. FTQ went to Mark Green with Alex Thurston and Joe Kerry second and third. The top three drivers were only separated by two seconds after qualifying so it was looking like being a close final. Tyre wear was very high so the tyre strategy for the final would be very important. At the end of the 30-minute A final, Mark took the win with Shepherd driver John Zottl second just half a second ahead of Joe Kerry’s 747 in third. In total half the grid for the final were Serpent 747s with three of them finishing in the top four positions. Round three of the championship will take place at 4-5 May at Halifax, the same venue for the EFRA 1:8 On-Road European Championships later this year.
