This weekend saw the second running of the ICC (International Carpet Challenge) – an event that has quickly become one of if not the biggest winter touring car meetings in the UK. As the name suggests, some top drivers from Europe including Christopher Krapp and Michael Orlowski joined top UK drivers Chris Grainger, Elliott Harper and current UK touring car Champ Olly Jefferies to do battle in Essex.
From the start the ultra fast modified class was dominated by Olly Jefferies, using his LRP-powered Xray, Jefferies took all five rounds of qualifying in convincing style, while in the 13.5T stock category Zak Finlay would make it two Xrays on pole position as he took TQ using the latest T4’15.
Olly Jefferies was able to take his sizable performance advantage through to the finals and took all three legs of the modified A final – an impressive performance from the UK driver and a great start to his 2015 touring car campaign. Zak won two out of three legs in stock to make it a truly successful day for the UK Xray team. In the HPI vintage class it was another Xray driven by Damian Giddins who made it three out of three for the Czech manufacturer as he took the win in this class.
A notable stand out performance came from young Harley Eldridge who put her Yokomo eighth on the grid for the A final. This was her first major A final and notably ahead of some top UK names – definitely a name to look out for in the future!
